A remodel in Plantation, Florida where we added a spa to an existing pool and built a custom water feature on a radius. The client wanted to keep his existing decking, which shaped how we approached the whole job.
The challenge
Two things made this one difficult. We wanted an LED sheer descent on a radius, and a sheer descent that follows a curve has to be custom made rather than pulled off a shelf. And the homeowner wanted to keep his existing deck, so everything new had to meet what was already there.
Matching the existing deck
We cut large-format coping to fit against the existing decking, and used turf to create a cleaner, smoother transition between old and new. Done well, that joint is the detail nobody notices, which is the point.
The result
A raised radius spa with mosaic tile and a custom LED sheer descent, tied into the pool the homeowner already had. It is a champagne spa, also called a rim flow, where the water comes right to the edge and spills evenly the whole way around. That detail lifts both the new spa and the existing pool, and it reads as one design rather than an addition.
